National broadband Mission

Recently, Modi Govt announced a mission to bridge the digital divide, make high speed data available to all remote parts of country.

As usual all regular suspects ( read so called purogami intellectuals ) started crying.

Their main objection was that Modi, instead of taking care of poverty, unemployment and covid, giving attention to something which is not Important.. Really?

Let's examine..

Let's take an example of IT park, Hinjewadi, Pune. Once a happening place with traffic jams, limited parking spaces, sky rocketing real estate prices and economy concentrated in a pocket..

But after 4 months of lockdown, picture is completely changed.. No, IT companies have not closed down or shifted their operations. But all the people working in these companies have shifted to their hometowns.

Business is as usual for the companies, but there are no traffic jams, real estate prices down in hinjewadi.

The employees are working with same vigour from their home in remote areas outside metro.

One of my friend's son has moved back to Reva, a remote district place in Madhya Pradesh and other one to remote Tamilnadu.

Obviously, these young guys will start spending on clothes, food, movie's, shopping etc etc in their respective towns instead of in Pune.

These guy's were moved to metro towns only because of less or no opportunities back in their towns.

But with govt's thrust in electrification and broadband mission, many new business opportunities will get created locally. Many high paying job's will be shifted back to towns. This in turn, will set rural economy in motion..

Major hinderence in developing the rural economy and decentralising the metros was availability of high speed data. This National Broadband mission will address the same. Jobs will be created and dependency on agriculture will also come down.

In metros, we may expect fewer cars on road, less pollution. There will be fewer people staying in these towns, who used to spend hours while commuting to their work places. They can spend their time more qualitatively or productively.

Real estate prices in almost all metro towns are exhorbitently high. Hopefuly, there will be some correction.

Change is always painful but good.. remember this?

So, these changes will painful in short term, but good in long term.

It is better to ignore these liberals.. what say?
